new life motto

Photobucket

and while we're being nerdy about typefaces and letter spacing, i'm searching for a good western font for my birthday tattoo. something between a rosewood and a mesquite, without the cheesiness of a coney island?

in addition to drinking chicken blood, alice cooper speaks the truth

"I heard the title Vampire Weekend and I thought, 'Oh, man, that's gonna be great. I gotta see it.' And there are these guys with little Gap T-shirts on and I'm going, 'What happened to the balls in rock 'n' roll? Why are American bands so wimpy?'"

new phrase

the aesthetics of intimacy. i think that will be a good way to describe my work from now on.

the nicest compliment i've ever received

"what i like about your work, carol, is that you just seem to be most concerned with living life. the things you do just happen to be best classified as art."

scenes from childhood

I used to con the neighborhood kids into using the picnic tables as a runway from which we would jump wildly into the air, with the intent that every time our muscles would be conditioned to travel a little further. I had been reading a lot of The Fledgling, by Jane Langton. I was obsessed with learning how to fly.

sometimes i surprise myself

art school consists of a lot of conceptual bullshit and justifying yourself through augmented critical vocabularies. i've become shockingly good at it, but sometimes i'd like to think that i mean what i say. excerpted from my preliminary thesis statement:

1. i think a lot about history as a manner of evoking what was lost to the progression of time.
2. i believe that art is an active process for investigating the poetry latent in the everyday.

About Me

My photo
I unofficially take photographs and charm people for a living. Officially, I received a B.F.A. from Cornell University, and am now on the West Coast making websites, planting gardens, and damning the man. Be my friend at carol[dot]why[dot]zou[at]gmail[dot]com.
